21 of February 2016 Alexander Kolobnev from “Gazprom-RusVelo” became a winner of the mountain classification in a road bycicle racing stage race held annually in the Algarve, Portugal. At the last day of the race Alexander Kolobnev won a winner jersey after a sudden jump with other eight racers from different teams.
Michele Devoti, a sports director of the team said that Alexander Kolobnev became the King of the Mountain of the race and he had left behind Alberto Contador and Geraint Thomas.
Alexander Kolobnev thinks about it the following: “Partly I was lucky. I had a good jump. The team was also working hard, especially Artem Nych. The stage was rather difficult: there was no any plain part of the road, it was windy all the time. I began this race with plenty of power but after the first stage my power diminished as I rode 150km in a jump. Now I feel myself very well and I am glad that I could do my best at the first and last days of the race Volta ao Algarve. It is a very good sign.”
